In February we finally returned to our original home of the basement in the Latest Music Bar. Bella Pollen shared the Victorian’s troll-like tendencies for sending rather ‘unloving’ Valentine’s cards to people they didn’t like. I stepped in at the last minute to cover a Covid-struck speaker with the story of the world’s worst orchestra (better known as the Portsmouth Sinfonia), and Donald Clark shared a plethora of little-known facts about Brighton and Sussex’s hidden geological marvels, from giant ammonites on Newhaven beach to mystery holes in the cliffs, Bronze Age camps and one of the town’s unsung heroes of geology and the theory of evolution: Gideon Mantell.
For March we welcome the return of Pete Fij (whose previous talks include Vojtek the bear and ‘things found in records’) plus newcomers Sara Parsonage and podcaster and author, Cole Moreton.
