Victor Adebowale is a remarkable individual. Growing up in Wakefield, failing his A Levels and starting his working life as a road-sweeper, he went on to become CEO of Turning Point for 19 years; has been a Non-Executive Director on the board of NHS England, was awarded a CBE for services to the unemployed and homeless people, and became a public (crossbench) peer in the House of Lords in 2001.
This is Victor’s official biography. When asked directly, his response was: ‘Peer, social entrepreneur and wannabe creative who is bogged down in the cares of the world and who gives a shit.’
In a frank Q&A we’ll discuss Victor’s experiences as an outsider inside the House of Lords, the highs and lows of British politics, social reform, housing, health and, generally how to put the world to rights.
